Overview

Accounting That Keeps Itself Up to Date

Odoo Accounting turns bookkeeping from a monthly scramble into a continuous, largely automated process. Customer invoices, vendor bills, bank statements, and tax entries all live in the same database as your sales and inventory, so every business event posts its accounting entry the moment it happens — no exports, no re-keying, no waiting for the accountant's summary.

It suits SMEs that want real-time visibility as much as finance teams in multi-company groups. Dashboards show cash position, receivables, and payables at a glance; you can drill down from any report line to the journal entry — and from there to the original invoice or bank line. Multi-currency handling, multi-company structures, and analytic (cost-center) accounting are built in.

Aerya implements Odoo Accounting with the compliance pieces that matter for United States businesses: the official l10n_us localization, a US GAAP-style chart of accounts, 1099 vendor reporting, and ACH payment files — combining Odoo's core localization with the OCA's actively maintained l10n-usa modules. We also train your accountant, because software only pays off when the people using it trust it.

How It Works

A Month in Odoo Accounting

How the daily and monthly accounting cycle runs once Odoo is configured.

01

Configure once: accounts, taxes, journals

Your chart of accounts, VAT positions, and payment terms are set during implementation. Fiscal positions then apply the correct taxes automatically per customer country — crucial for intra-EU B2B sales and OSS rules.

02

Invoices and bills flow in automatically

Customer invoices generate from sales orders, delivered quantities, or project timesheets. Vendor bills arrive by email and become draft entries ready to validate — with three-way matching against purchase orders and receipts.

03

Bank reconciliation in minutes

Import bank statements or connect a feed. Odoo's reconciliation engine matches transactions to open invoices and suggests counterparts; recurring items like bank fees are handled by reconciliation models you define once.

04

Payments and follow-ups

Register payments, generate SEPA credit-transfer files for vendor batches, and let automated follow-up levels chase overdue customers with escalating reminders — politely, and without anyone maintaining a spreadsheet.

05

Report, declare, close

VAT reports, balance sheet, profit and loss, general ledger, and aged partner balances are available at any moment. Period locks and closing entries keep past months immutable once declared.

Community vs Enterprise

Accounting in Community vs Enterprise

This is the one area where the editions genuinely differ — and where OCA modules shine.

Recommended

Community Edition

Community includes the complete double-entry engine, customer invoicing, vendor bills, taxes, and payment tracking — free forever. The advanced financial reports and reconciliation screens Odoo reserves for Enterprise are restored by mature OCA modules (financial reports, reconciliation widget, MIS Builder), which is exactly how we implement full accounting on Community for most clients.

Enterprise Edition

Enterprise adds AI-powered document digitization (OCR), automated bank feeds in many countries, and some localized statutory reports out of the box. For companies processing hundreds of vendor bills monthly or needing official bank-feed connectivity, Enterprise can be worth it — we will model the cost against your volumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Odoo Accounting free in the Community edition?
The core accounting engine — journals, invoices, bills, taxes, bank statements — is free in Community. Some advanced reports and reconciliation screens are Enterprise features, but well-maintained OCA modules restore them at no license cost, which is our standard implementation approach.
Does Odoo support US accounting and tax compliance?
Yes. The core l10n_us localization ships a United States chart of accounts and tax structure, and the OCA l10n-usa project adds US GAAP reporting templates, ACH payment files, bank routing numbers, and 1099 vendor reporting. We configure and validate these during implementation together with your accountant or CPA.
Can Odoo import bank statements automatically?
Yes. Community imports standard formats such as CAMT.053, CSV, and OFX, with OCA connectors available for many banks; Enterprise adds official live bank feeds in supported countries. Either way, reconciliation suggestions do most of the matching work for you.
Can we migrate from our current accounting software?
Yes. Typical migrations bring in the chart of accounts, open receivables and payables, fixed assets, and opening balances. Historical detail can be archived or imported depending on how much you need day-to-day — we scope this in the analysis phase.
Does Odoo handle multiple companies and currencies?
Natively. You can run several legal entities in one database with automatic inter-company rules, consolidated reporting, and invoicing in any currency with daily exchange-rate updates posting realized and unrealized gains.
