What Odoo Community Edition is
Odoo ships in two editions built on the same code. Community is the open-source core, free to use for as many users and companies as you need. Enterprise is a paid subscription, billed per user per month, that adds proprietary apps on top of that core.
With Community you never pay for licenses. The budget goes to hosting, setup, data migration and the modules your processes need, and most of what Enterprise adds is already available for free through the Odoo Community Association (OCA).

Hosting and setup cost roughly the same with either edition. The difference is the license, and it grows with every user.

Enterprise at €22.40 per user per month, the Custom plan with monthly billing, which is the plan you need to run custom or OCA modules. With yearly billing the Custom plan costs €17.90. Prices from odoo.com, before VAT, September 2026.

The Odoo Community Association maintains free, reviewed modules for almost everything Enterprise sells as an extra. These are the ones we install most often.

One thing has no real OCA equivalent: Odoo Studio, the no-code editor. In Community, new fields and screen changes are made in code by a developer, which also means they are versioned and survive upgrades.
